Alaa Aly is a registered Professional Engineer and a certified groundwater professional (CGWP). He has 22 years of professional experience specializing in the application of state-of-the-art computational, statistical, and operations research techniques to the development, evaluation, and analyses of hydrologic and agricultural systems as well as development of hydrological, fate, and transport models. Dr. Aly has managed and co-managed a large number of projects with budgets up to 1.3 million dollars. His experience includes hydrologic and probabilistic modeling, uncertainty analyses, hydrologic and environmental characterization, water resource management, environmental remediation, and water supply evaluation projects.  He is an expert in the use of statistical techniques and models for engineering, environmental impact and characterization, mining, and water resources applications.  Dr. Aly has authored and coauthored journal articles in Ground Water, Water Resources Research, and in other refereed journals in the fields of hydrology and environmental engineering. His technical assignments have included the development of a state-of-the-art integrated hydrologic model that couples the surface-water model HSPF and the groundwater model MODFLOW with an explicit physical vadose zone moisture representation.  Other projects include the application of artificial neural networks for modeling short-term fluctuations of water levels in shallow and deep groundwater monitor wells and using remote sensing techniques to map land cover for large watersheds.  He has also conducted water quality modeling and evaluation in surface reservoirs, trend analyses and detection in hydrologic time series, statistical modeling of hydrologic and water quality data, and support of complex groundwater modeling and calibration.
