For the third consecutive year, INTERA is included on Engineering News Record’s (ENR) list of top 200 environmental firms. Ranked at No. 161 on the 2018 list, INTERA is up 20 spots from last year. INTERA’s President and CEO, Dr. Marsh Lavenue, stated that “We are excited to see INTERA’s advancement in the ENR top 200 ranking. The significant jump in our ranking reflects the steady growth we have experienced from executing our strategic plan” Firms are ranked based on the percent of their 2017 gross revenue from environmental market segments including hazardous waste, nuclear waste, air, water, wastewater treatment, environmental management, and environmental sciences.

INTERA SELECTS FIRST ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP AWARD WINNER
INTERA has awarded Mary Wilkins, Project Associate, with the first annual Ron Lantz Stewardship award. Her proposal was one of four judged on the criteria of planning concept; cost and schedule; and impact, results, and sustainability.
With her $10,000 stipend, Mary will develop a prototype of a free literacy improvement app for iOS and Android, called Starcrossers. Starcrossers will be developed as a literacy and reading comprehension game that teaches eight essential critical reasoning skills as well as the most common vocabulary words in the English Language. The methodology behind Starcrossers has shown effective in raising reading scores on standardized tests. Starcrossers will provide low-literate, underprivileged children and adults with the assistance they need to complete high school at the appropriate reading level as well as develop job skills to gain access to more opportunities. INTERA is pleased to announce the relocation of our Hawaii operations to a more well-suited location in east Oahu, where we will continue to serve our valued local clients. The new office, located near Coconut Grove in Kailua, Hawai`i, is in closer proximity to our commercial, state, county, and municipal water agency clients, and will enable INTERA to more rapidly respond to our clients’ needs. INTERA’s Hawai`i office will maintain our focus of providing our clients with effective solutions to their water resource, environmental and coastal challenges. Kevin Gooding, CPG, INTERA’s Hawai`i Operations Manager, has professional expertise in groundwater resource evaluations and development; well drilling, installation, testing, and monitoring; environmental assessments and permitting; wetlands restoration; characterization of environmental contamination; dam safety evaluations, rockfalls, and debris flows; and application of GIS. He will continue providing services to our island clients with the support of our expert staff of geologists and hydrogeologists, water resource and coastal engineers, environmental scientists, and GIS and programming specialists.

Shaden Musleh, technical expert in western water rights and prior appropriation doctrine, has joined INTERA’s Water Resources Division in Boulder, Colorado as a principal water resources engineer. He has over 23 years of demonstrated and proven experience in water rights and water resources planning and management. Mr. Musleh has developed cooperative solutions to water resources problems in multi-party settings and has led and managed numerous large-scale projects that involved providing management solutions to complex water resources problems. He has served as principal expert on numerous water rights cases in the western US, for which he has conducted analyses, negotiated settlements, and drafted decree terms and conditions. His work also includes development of basin-wide water resources management plans, water rights administration, analysis of groundwater pumping impact on streams, analysis of groundwater availability, evaluation of water demand and supply and analysis of the various practices associated with the diverse aspects of water rights applications.
He is currently working on multiple water rights cases that involve determining historical depletions and return flow requirements associated with proposed changes of water rights; conducting analysis of water availability, yield, and exchange potential; analyzing the timing of well depletions, recharge accretions, and historical return flows; conducting seepage and loss studies of irrigation ditches; developing water rights accounting procedures for complying with in-priority and no-injury provisions while maximizing use of water supplies; preparing and reviewing water rights applications and drafting protective terms and conditions for water court decrees; providing expert disclosures and negotiations on behalf of clients in water rights cases, preparing and reviewing applications for substitute water supply plans; developing water rights models to simulate available supply as well as changes in supply under various demand, operational and climatic scenarios.

INTERA’s founder, Dr. Ron Lantz, has always set a strong standard for stewardship within the company and in the community. To recognize the duty that all INTERA employees have to stewardship, the company has created the Ron Lantz Stewardship Award. The mission statement of the award is: To empower INTERA employees to act as stewards of the environment for the betterment of humankind. Awarded on an annual basis through a competitive proposal process, the award includes a $10,000 stipend for expenses and a 1-month paid sabbatical to execute a project that exemplifies stewardship.

INTERA’s Beronica Lee-Brand and Shannon George recently volunteered as judges in the Junior/Senior Division of the 2018 Austin Energy Regional Science Festival—a competition for 3rd through 12th grade students from 23 school districts and 12 counties in Texas. With over 3,500 students and families in attendance, it is among the largest of the 13 regional science fairs held in Texas. The festival offers a public viewing of the science projects, educational booths, and scientific demonstrations. Beronica and Shannon stated that, “it’s a great way to support the community, and we’re just glad we could be part of it.” Both said they were impressed with the quality and innovativeness of the science projects, making their judging responsibilities even more of a challenge.
