Theresa grew up exploring the creeks and streams in Missouri. Her family vacations were canoe trips on the river, camping on the gravel bars, and backpacking through the forest. The daughter of a biology/chemistry teacher (father) and a math teacher (mother), Theresa was drawn to the math and sciences at an early age. In college at Saint Louis University, she majored in biology and conducted research in molecular systematics.

After college, Theresa bounced around a bit and did endangered bird research in California, fish population studies in Russia, and biochemistry research in Missouri. One of her most influential experiences was leading a trail crew of high school students in the backcountry of the Great Smoky Mountains. “Working and living in the woods for five weeks was amazing. Eliminating all unessential goods forced us to focus on the truly important aspects of being human and being part of a community.” She finally settled for eight years in Indiana where she got her Master’s degree in environmental science with a focus on water resources.

After graduate school, Theresa began her consulting career at a small hydrogeological firm in Indiana. There for six years, she worked her way up to a principle position, working on groundwater projects all over the country. “One of my favorite assignments was a collector well project in which field data and groundwater modeling were used to help the client avoid additional treatment equipment by optimizing the source water quality.”

After moving to Pennsylvania and taking time off with her second child, Theresa returned to consulting work in the areas of business development and groundwater investigations. Theresa joined INTERA in 2014 as a water resources scientist. “I have been so impressed with all of the scientists I’ve worked with at INTERA. They are all talented and very skilled, while also being great fun to work with.” Her projects are focused on groundwater supply and availability, water resource planning, and water quality analysis. “What I love best about my job is being able to help a client solve a problem. It feels great to see the client’s relief and excitement when we can resolve an important issue or make a system work more efficiently.”

With two young boys, Theresa spends a lot of time outside playing baseball and hiking around in the woods. In her free time, Theresa likes to push her physical limits either running, biking, or swimming.
