INTERA Geosciences UK Limited (INTERA) has been appointed to the Environment Agency’s Groundwater Modelling National Framework 2026–2034, joining a group of leading consultancies selected to provide specialist groundwater modelling expertise. This reflects the company’s position amongst the international leaders in groundwater modelling underpinning informed decisions to support sustainable management of groundwater resources. The eight-year framework provides the Environment Agency with access to specialist groundwater modelling expertise that facilitates water resource management, environmental protection, and flood forecasting. The framework will support the development, maintenance, and application of groundwater models used to inform regulatory decisions, environmental assessments, and long-term water resource planning.
The appointment aligns with growing national efforts to improve water resilience in the face of increasing pressures from population growth, climate change, and environmental sustainability requirements. Groundwater models play a critical role in understanding aquifer systems, evaluating water availability, assessing abstraction impacts, and supporting groundwater flood risk forecasting.
INTERA brings decades of experience in hydrogeology, numerical modelling, uncertainty analysis, data worth analysis and water resources decision support. The company’s technical specialists have developed and applied advanced groundwater modelling tools on complex projects for government agencies, utilities, and industrial clients worldwide.
Patrick Cox, Managing Director of INTERA Geosciences UK, said:
"We are delighted to be selected by the Environment Agency to be a part of this important framework and provide access to our leading groundwater expertise. Groundwater resources are fundamental to the nation and the environment through environmental protection, water security, and economic growth. We look forward to supporting the Agency with technically robust modelling and analysis that helps inform sustainable water management decisions for years to come.”
The framework supports groundwater modelling activities across England through 2034 and provides a collaborative platform for delivering the technical expertise needed to address emerging water resource and environmental challenges
