INTERA has awarded Mary Wilkins, Project Associate, with the first annual Ron Lantz Stewardship award. Her proposal was one of four judged on the criteria of planning concept; cost and schedule; and impact, results, and sustainability. With her $10,000 stipend, Mary will develop a prototype of a free literacy improvement app for iOS and Android, called Starcrossers. Starcrossers will be developed as a literacy and reading comprehension game that teaches eight essential critical reasoning skills as well as the most common vocabulary words in the English Language. The methodology behind Starcrossers has shown effective in raising reading scores on standardized tests. Starcrossers will provide low-literate, underprivileged children and adults with the assistance they need to complete high school at the appropriate reading level as well as develop job skills to gain access to more opportunities. More information is available at www.starcrossers.com.
