The tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many others have clearly demonstrated that members of the Black community are not treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve. In the wake of these tragedies and other recent events, it is time to come together in support of basic human and civil rights—it is time to state plainly and unequivocally that Black Lives Matter. It is important that the entire INTERA community—our employees, customers, colleagues, and friends—know that we stand in solidarity against racism and injustice. We believe that equality for people of every race and color is a basic human right. This stance and belief are consistent with INTERA’s core values and commitment to being good stewards of our communities. INTERA employs a diverse group of scientists and engineers, both homegrown and from over 17 different countries. Therefore, we understand that one of our responsibilities is to help chart a better course forward for our employees, our communities, our country, and the world in which we live. But we can—and must—do better. It is not enough to say that we value diversity or to speak about inclusion in general terms. Now is the time to listen attentively and to be clear in our words and actions. In addition to making contributions to organizations such as the NAACP, we will start by helping to address an inequity in our own industry—the disproportionately low number of Black geoscientists and engineers. We are taking a more active role in national associations for Black geoscientists and engineers and contributing to scholarship programs established for minority students pursuing these fields. We are also implementing an enhanced development and recruiting initiative to improve Black representation at INTERA. Our efforts will not stop here. We are committed to continuing to identify opportunities where we can make a difference in addressing the issues of racism, inequity, and intolerance. We hope you will join us. The time is now, the cause is just. -- Marsh Lavenue, President and CEO
