INTERA's Dr. Abhishek Singh is the lead author on a paper published in the Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering that describes the development of an interactive evolutionary optimization framework for hydrologic model calibration. This framework proposes using novel 'human-based' learning models, specifically image-based machine learning (IBML), that reduce the need for continuous expert interaction in the use of such interactive frameworks. IBML mimics the 'visual' information processing of human experts and uses algorithms from the field of image processing to mine information about the spatial characteristics of parameter fields, thereby improving the performance of the interactive calibration framework.
