Patrick Williamson, PG, QP, Principal Hydrogeochemist at INTERA, was recently interviewed by the Mining Journal and featured in an article entitled, Energy Supply Depends on Water; Water Supply Depends on Energy, authored by Paul Harris. During the interview, Patrick addresses the specific areas of energy consumption in mine water management, including the often overlooked issues of well design and energy efficiency, and the operational/energy costs of various mine dewatering strategies. As mining companies look to minimize their energy consumption, carbon footprint and impacts on local water resources, the design and efficiency of water management systems has to extend beyond the basic engineering requirements for water management to encompass a more holistic management strategy.
