Challenge. Meet stakeholder’s expectations regarding timely dredging of shallow draft inlet and bypassing of dredged material to adjacent beaches
Solution. INTERA is assisting Martin County in managing this project where navigation maintenance involves dredging sand from the impoundment basin and navigation channel and bypassing it to adjacent beaches. To complete this work, the county must obtain a new state permit for dredging , update the current state-adopted inlet management plan (first developed in 1995), perform physical and environmental monitoring, observe construction activities, fulfill permit requirements, coordinate with state and federal agencies, and maintain information in a detailed coastal database. Because of INTERA’s expertise in inlet hydrodynamic modeling and our independence from the local project stakeholders, INTERA has provided unbiased technical advice on the state’s update of the inlet sediment plan.
