INTERA’s Sunil Mehta, Vice President and Principal Scientist, and Fred Zhang, Principal Hydrologist, recently published an article entitled, “Delineating Soil Moisture Dynamics Within an Evapotranspiration Surface Barrier Using Spatial-Temporal Analysis” in the Vadose Zone Journal. The study quantifies moisture dynamics within an Evapotranspiration (ET) surface barrier and compares it with field measurements from Hanford, providing insights into soil moisture behaviors. The research holds implications for performance assessments of radioactive waste disposal sites and tank farms in semi-arid regions, particularly in the western US. The article highlights the significance of understanding soil moisture dynamics in optimizing ET surface barrier design under varying weather and vegetation conditions.
