Dr. Larry Lake, a Principal Engineer with INTERA Petroleum Consultants (an INTERA subsidiary), will be teaching two short courses in association with the upcoming Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition being held in Dallas, Texas from September 24-26, 2018.TCE. Prior to the conference, Dr. Lake will give a two-day training course on Sept. 22nd and 23rd discussing Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Fundamentals. The course will explore the basics of waterflooding and EOR through fundamental principles of reservoir engineering. For more details on this course, please visit: https://www.spe.org/training/courses/ERF.php
The second course, being held on September 27th, will focus on using field-scale reservoir characterization to evaluate heterogeneity and well-to-well communication. Topics will include static and dynamic properties such as standard measures of heterogeneity (e.g., the Dykstra-Parson coefficient), single- and multiphase fluid properties, as well as newer methods to analyze inter-well communication. To register, please visit: https://www.spe.org/training/courses/RHC.php

In conjunction with the 2018 Small Business Market Research Fair, the San Antonio Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) held their annual golf tournament on August 14, 2018 to raise money for an education and mentoring fund. In support of this effort, INTERA sponsored a team and hole at the event. When asked about the INTERA Team’s second to last place finish in the tournament, Team Captain Joe “Geo” Galemore (shown in the photo on the right) stated “It’s really about raising money for a good cause, not the golf.” He was also heard muttering something about finding better players for next year’s event.
Among other things, proceeds from the tournament help fund scholarships for students attending Texas colleges/universities that major in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. The proceeds are also used to help send high school students to SAME-sponsored Engineering & Construction Camps. As a geoscience and engineering company, INTERA welcomes the opportunity to support programs that focus on getting children and young adults excited about engineering, science, and math related programs, in the hopes that they will pursue careers in engineering and science related professions.
INTERA’s Dr. Jack Wittman speaks on the subject of “Strategic Water Management in Indiana” at the Indiana Water Summit, August 2018
Dr. Jack Wittman, Principal Geoscientist and Vice President of INTERA’s Midwest division, presented during the kickoff of the inaugural Indiana Water Summit on August 12, 2018. The overarching goal of the summit was to lay the framework for the state and regional-level water planning. The two-day event brought together over 250 industry experts to discuss the issues facing Indiana’s water supply. Dr. Wittman’s talk entitled “Strategic Water Management in Indiana”, focused on the infrastructure, funding, and policies associated with water management in the state. As Indiana’s agricultural businesses continue to grow, they need more reliable water supplies for their crops. Per Dr. Wittman, Indiana uses most of its groundwater for public water supplies, but agriculture becomes almost as big of a user of water during the three summer months as public supplies – and this is statewide. Indiana has just recently created a water infrastructure task force to research water supply needs but creating a water infrastructure plan will likely take years.
